This paper explored the role of human capital in driving effective event management, highlighting how knowledge, skills, experience and interpersonal abilities shape operational performance, attendee satisfaction, safety and innovation. The success of events is increasingly tied to the quality and capacity of the people who plan, manage and execute them. Drawing on perspectives from human capital theory, the resource-based view, systems thinking and risk society frameworks, the study positions human capital as a multidimensional resource encompassing technical expertise, emotional intelligence, leadership and adaptability. By reviewing literature from event management, hospitality and service industries, the paper shows that organizations with well-developed human capital are better able to anticipate challenges, coordinate complex teams and deliver memorable experiences. Conversely, gaps in workforce competence manifested in skill shortages, inadequate training, high staff turnover, or weak leadership can lead to operational failures, security lapses and reputational harm. The study also considers emerging trends and challenges, such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, diversity and inclusion and workforce wellbeing, emphasizing their impact on sustaining effective human capital in a dynamic and high-pressure industry. By highlighting the centrality of people in event outcomes, the paper argues that investment in professional development, emotional resilience and organizational learning is critical for building resilient, innovative and socially responsible events. These insights provide both practical guidance for event practitioners and theoretical contributions to understanding the social and strategic dimensions of workforce effectiveness.
